Practice, practice, practice.

The youtube ratings for guitar virtuoso Tommy Emmanuel are always insanely high. And rightly so. The man is simply a beast on the acoustic guitar! How did he get there?

The road to musical excellence is not paved with instant gratification I’m afraid xD.

Get to work!

No Time To Sleep – Tina Dico & Helgi Jonsson, part 1 (intro and verse 1 transcription)

I recently discovered this song, No Time To Sleep, from Tina Dico and immediately fell in love with it.

There are many excellent live versions to be found, but I particularly like Tina’s duo performance with Helgi Jonsson @ detektor.fm Akustik-Session:

This song is also a very good exercise for practising fingerpicking (alternating bassnotes to be played with the thumb (p finger, PIMA).

Here is the transciption:

I hope you will come to like this song. Good luck practising!

Will upload the subsequent parts when I have the time. Don’t forget to click Thumbs Up to support this youtube channel!

God bless.

Hollyweird does it again! Once again a christian (fictional) in a hollywood film has been portrayed as a psychotic serialkiller. I am far from perfect but I swear, if I buy into this steady stream of HW mind control over the recent years, I’m either misguided, ignorant or even an extremely violent killer. And I thought I was just a little bit of eveything ;-) .

Although I think the original was better, it’s still a gripping remake of a thriller.

Corazon Partio. Transcibed 1st verse (MTV unplugged CD version)

Here is a transciption i made of the first verse of Corazon Partio – Alejandro Sanz (MTV unplugged version) PDF file. It’s a beautifull nylonstring acoustic guitar part, wich is in nice dynamic contrast with the intro of the song. You start with a full sound (vocals, piano, guitar, bass, drums)

The transcribed part is of an alternate take (cd MTV Unplugged mix). There are a couple of differences arrangementwise: For example the intro of the live version (embedded youtube video), has additional nylonstring guitar in the intro and also acoustic piano in the first verse, whereas the cd unplugged version i have only has nylonstring guitar and electric piano and of course the lead vocals.

Differences aside, the basic chord progression of the 1st verse stays the same. Enjoy!

Scott Henderson Shares Secrets of the Pentatonic Scale

I never had the opportunity to study at the MI, the Musicians Institute.  But the interviews i have seen with guitarist and teachers such as Scott Henderson and Carl Verheyen really makes you think. Man did i miss out;)

But fortunatly there are video’s of lessons and interviews such as this one. Enjoy!

What’s the first scale almost every guitarist learns? Yes, it is the minor pentatonic scale. Here’s a Scott Henderson lesson on how to expand your use of the scale, resulting in new interesing rythmic ideas and sounds.
